Here are some interesting facts about TEC. The statistics included use the most recent data available.
General
- The Technology Entrepreneur Center was created in 1999
- 14 courses are offered
- TEC Wire is an e-newsletter that has been disseminated to over 14,000 alumni, entrepreneurs, and other friends of TEC.
- On-site and online certificate programs for education and professional development are offered in several major cities
- Since the Center’s inception, over 3,500 students have enrolled in courses offered through the TEC
- The TEC has received approval for “TE” rubric which will allow the Center to offer more course throughout the College of Engineering and Illinois campus.
Outreach Overview
- Outreach activities are hosted in several major cities for students and alumni
- TEC administers the annual V. Dale Cozad Business Plan Competition and Lemelson-Illinois Student Prize for innovation
- The Center has awarded over 40 professional development certificates in technology commercialization to undergraduate and graduate students as well as engineering professionals
- Several student groups (Ambient, Microlution, RealmWare, and Engineers Without Borders) have been showcased at Illini-TEC Forum events
- TEC has hosted several exceptional guest speakers at Forum events in Chicago, Urbana, and St. Louis

- BusineesWeek ranks TEC as number 30 in The Top Design Programs
- Entrepreneur Magazine ranks TEC as number 16 in the 2007 Best Undergraduate Programs
- Entrepreneur Magazine ranks TEC as number 21 in the 2007 Best Graduate Programs
